Located on the first hills of the southern coast of the Tuscan Maremma, Capalbio is an important historical and artistic centre recognised by Legambiente for the careful management of its landscape and beaches.
With its small medieval village, Capalbio has a very ancient history with traces of Etruscan and Roman times. The characteristic village in which stands the beautiful Torre Aldobrandesca, is distinguished by the presence of the ancient walkable walls, from which one can admire splendid views that reach as far as Monte Argentario.
Among the soft hills typical of the Grosseto Maremma, Capalbio is a destination for artists and tourists attracted by the Giardino dei Tarocchi, an art park located near Pescia Fiorentina, a locality known for its beautiful farmhouses among olive and cypress trees, not far from the famous beach called Ultima Spiaggia.
Another place of interest is the Lake Burano Nature Reserve, an oasis of Mediterranean scrub and sand dunes managed by the WWF, where it is easy to come across fallow deer, wild ducks or herons. An enchanting area not far from Orbetello and Ansedonia.
As well as being a place to visit for its splendid landscape, crystal-clear sea and history, Capalbio is also the place to taste typical products and local wines, in the shops, trattorias and wine bars that line the characteristic streets of the village.
