Castiglione della Pescaia

Along the north coast of the province of Grosseto, stands Castiglione della Pescaia, a town of seafaring origin, now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of the Tuscan Maremma.
The medieval town is situated on a small hill overlooking the sea. Surrounded by walls, it is characterised by narrow streets, craft shops, typical restaurants, and breathtaking views and sunsets. Erected on the highest point is the Aragonese Castle, the symbol and pride of the town.

There are many activities to do and see in Castiglione della Pescaia. First and foremost, the crystal-clear, turquoise sea, enhanced by long beaches of fine sand, free, equipped or wild, such as the Marze beach, the Rocchette beach, the Cala Violina beach, the Cala Civetta beach, or the golden beaches of the famous Punta Ala.
The blue sea is contrasted by the green of the Tombolo pine forest and the surrounding hills, ideal destinations for lovers of trekking on foot, horseback or mountain bike. Numerous trails wind their way through the municipal area, often offering beautiful views of the sea and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.

Culture enthusiasts should not forget the archaeological sites of Vetulonia, the Etruscan museum, the Hermitage of San Gugliemo, near the hamlet of Buriano, destination of numerous pilgrimages, the Casa Rossa Ximenes (now a multimedia visitor centre frequented mainly by birdwatchers), the Diaccia Botrona nature reserve (ancient lake Prile from which the name Castiglione della Pescaia derives).

Famous for its organisation, Castiglione della Pescaia is also known as the "Switzerland of the Maremma". A fascinating place full of natural beauty, traditions, good food and history, where you can have fun in summer but also live all year round, thanks to its always mild climate, the hospitality of its inhabitants and its strategic position.
Castiglione Della Pescaia is in fact the ideal starting point for discovering the entire Maremma area, but also the art cities of Tuscany, such as Lucca, Siena, Florence and Arezzo.
