Manciano

Another inland area of the Maremma that is definitely worth getting to know is Manciano. Although Manciano is characterised by wild landscapes made up of rolling hills, expanses of olive groves and beautiful villages, it is also an area from which it is easy to reach the stretch of coast from Talamone to Capalbio.

The town of Manciano is a characteristic medieval village with a history stretching back thousands of years, well represented by the imposing Cassero (keep) of Aldobrandesque origin that dominates the entire town and the clock tower built in 1472. At the beginning of the last century, a monumental fountain was built in the main square to commemorate the completion of the Fiora aqueduct and the end of the drought.

Manciano is a lively town, rich in history and traditions, but also in services and commercial activities capable of welcoming all kinds of tourism and more. There are numerous restaurants and trattorias where you can enjoy typical local products while strolling through the streets of the ancient village. The town also has an important history in the field of music, with many appreciated musicians and orchestras trained at its music school for over thirty years.

Like most of the municipalities in the province of Grosseto, Manciano's is a vast territory that offers many opportunities for inhabitants and visitors.
Not to be missed is the small hamlet of Montemerano, perfectly preserved and surrounded by a characteristic heart-shaped wall or the Terme di Saturnia, among the best-known in the Maremma, where steaming water flows between white travertine pools and again the Castello della Marsiliana, one of the symbols of this territory. For sports lovers in 2020 the so called "Wall of the Pirate" was completed, a stretch of road just over 3 kilometers long to be cycled, between Saturnia and Poggio Murella, in memory of Marco Pantani.
