Orbetello

A characteristic place in the Grosseto Maremma for its territorial variety is Orbetello, famous for its lagoon oasis and for the natural tombolos of La Feniglia and La Giannella that link the elegant town to the promontory of Monte Argentario. The quality of its environment means that thousands of birds such as the pink flamingo or the white heron find Orbetello as a resting place along their migratory route.

The historic centre of Orbetello is a pedestrian area that is also very popular with tourists from nearby towns, with the main street enlivened by the presence of small restaurants, bars and shops. A route that accompanies the visitor from the dam with the famous mill to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

Orbetello is also a tourist resort with its long beaches, such as La Giannella on the western lagoon, a long sandy beach about six kilometres long linking Argentario to Albinia, with residences and tourist villages, or Feniglia on the eastern lagoon linking Porto Ercole to Ansedonia, a small promontory known for its many luxurious villas frequented by Italian and foreign VIPs.

Another well-known locality in Orbetello is Talamone, whose elegant village, tourist port and characteristic beaches make it a popular destination, especially since it is the entrance to the Maremma Park, an unspoilt area that can be visited on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, walking in true nature, among wild animals and reaching the beautiful beaches of Marina di Alberese and Cala di Forno.
