Scarlino is a picturesque village still intact and well cared for, perched on Monte d'Alma just 7 kilometres from the north coast of the Tuscan Maremma.
The old village is surrounded by the ancient walls, characterised by three gates. The castle, the beautiful Rocca Pisana, dominates the top of the hill and is now the scene of performances and events during the summer.
Scarlino, despite being a small town, is very lively, offering many opportunities both to visitors and to its inhabitants, thanks, first of all, to its particularly privileged geographical position.
In just a few minutes, in fact, you can reach the coast, made up of beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, such as the now famous Cala Violina beach, Cala Martina, but also those of Cala Felice or the
beach of the Turtles, whose name comes from the first nesting in the Maremma in 2013.
Of particular importance is the Porto Turistico del Puntone, which, following considerable investment, has now become a place of attraction for yachtsmen with a passion for sailing and boating, where boats of considerable size can be accommodated.
If you go only a few kilometres away from the coast, you can quickly reach the motorway linking Livorno to Grosseto, an important communication route that has allowed Scarlino to remain a charming and typical place, but at the same time to be well organised and able to quickly offer all kinds of essential services.
The whole area is part of the Riserva Naturale delle Bandite di Scarlino. It covers about 9,000 hectares of woodland between the municipalities of Follonica, Scarlino, Gavorrano and Castiglione della Pescaia.
There are numerous well-signposted paths within the park, which can be travelled on horseback, on foot or by mountain bike, offering beautiful scenery, especially when you can see the sea.
Not to be forgotten are the culinary traditions, the pride and joy of Scarlino and the entire Maremma area, strengthened by the genuineness of the products of the land, such as the highly appreciated "primizie" of Pian d'Alma.
