The Tuscan Maremma is not just about the coast and the sea.
There are many equally beautiful places to discover in the inland and hilly areas. One of these is the area of Cinigiano, a small town stretching between the valley of the Ombrone river and the slopes of Mount Amiata.
The territory of Cinigiano is very varied and alternates between the typical rolling hills of the Maremma, with large expanses of vineyards, olive groves and cereal fields, and slopes that reach 700 metres in height (Monticello Amiata) characterised by scrubland and chestnut woods. Cinigiano has medieval origins
, as do most of the towns in the Maremma. At one time it was embellished by the castle, of which today only a few remains, unlike the Clock Tower located in the centre of the village.
Despite its small size, Cinigiano offers its inhabitants and visitors all kinds of services, schools, shops, bars, restaurants and wine cellars.
The whole of this part of the Maremma, being the Montecucco Doc area, is rich in wineries, some of which are large, and in accommodation facilities, particularly farm holiday centres that are increasingly popular with tourists, to fully enjoy contact with nature and the many products the area has to offer. The municipality of Cinigiano is rich in castles and monasteries, some of which have remained intact to this day, destinations for visits and excursions.
Castiglioncello Bandini Castle, which occupies most of the hamlet and was erected to control and dominate the Poggio all'Olmo Nature Reserve.
Porrona Castle, which stands on a small knoll with breathtaking views over the entire valley, the medieval castle of Vicarello, now the site of an exclusive agritourism, Montecucco Castle and Massari Hill, ideal destinations for visits to the beautiful wine cellars and for wine and food tours. From the hamlet of Sasso d'Ombrone, nature trails wind along the banks of the Ombrone River, while in the small hamlet of Poggi del Sasso you can visit the Oratory of the Madonna del Carmine, but above all the now famous Monastery of the Siloe community.
